Likewise, The Last of Us may run on the same great-looking tech as Uncharted (likely with far fewer modifications than Valve made to Quake’s engine), but the two games couldn’t feel more disconnected. Uncharted stars a cocky “everyman” who quips his way through impossible set pieces, shrugs off bullets without a whimper (except in the occasional cut scene to drive home his “frailty”), and mows down bad guys who can soak up an entire machine gun clip before going down. His pal Sully may complain about bein’ too old fer this shit, but he proves to be remarkably durable (and nimble) for a middle-aged guy in a Hawaiian shirt.
